Chent’annos

Perdasdefogu is a small town in Ogliastra, Sardinia. It’s always been well know for its military base. When military conscription was mandatory, people from all Italy feared to be sent there. Isoleted, among the mountains, far away from gorgeous Sardinian sea.

Nowdays, the military base is still there with all the related polemics to environment pollution. But in the last 5 years Perdas has been known not only around Italy but well outside, all over the world, for having the largest concentration of centenarians – 8 on a polulation of 1.778 abitants – 0,449% of residents, 4 centenarians every thousand people.

These photos taken on a hot morning of August, try to catch a snap of their experience, their lifestyle, their wisdom.

I had the honour to meet three of them: Tziu Antoni, Tzia Federica e Tziu Bonino. I was delighted from their semplicity, kindness and hospitality but what impressed me the most was their great will to live.
